Beeston AC Membership Renewals and Update

Hi all – hope this brief email finds you all well.

This is a short update circulated in view of the recent amended guidance from England Athletics on running and a call for membership renewal. Weekly newsletters are again suspended as a result of the cancellation of club training sessions and races, but hopefully will start again once there is a change to the current circumstances.

Welcome to: Gordon Stoner and Aimee Hibbert; happy running with Beeston AC!

Happy news: In other news, congratulations to Beestonites Jackie Welburn and James Isherwood on the birth of their son Charlie at the end of December; what lovely news!

Dan Rawson, our new Treasurer has written to all current members to announce that it’s time to renew membership. The fee remains at £20 (£15 of which goes to EA).

Please let Dan know (email danielrawson269@hotmail.com) when you have transferred membership money, please also let him know if you do not wish to renew. It would also be helpful if you can let us know if you have moved so that we have up to date addresses for everyone.

The updated guidance from England Athletics applicable from 5 January is available on the EA website and the information below is for national lockdown 3:

Following the UK Government’s announcement on Monday 4 January of a new national lockdown, regrettably our guidance for athletics and running must reflect these enforced Covid-19 restrictions across England.

As a result of everyone being required to stay at home, except for specific purposes as outlined by the UK Government’s guidance, the impact on our sport includes the following with immediate effect and until further notice:

·         The suspension of all face-to-face indoor and outdoor club / group activity.

·         The suspension of all indoor track and field competitions.

·         The suspension of all outdoor competitions including track and field, cross country, road, trail, fell and multi-terrain running.

·         The suspension of all face-to-face coaches’ and officials’ education.

·         The suspension of any other face-to-face club / group training sessions, events, athlete camps, running groups or other social events as well as club committee or other meetings.

·         Indoor gyms and facilities will remain closed.

What can take place?

The UK Government has confirmed that individuals can exercise outside of their home in a public outdoor space, limited to once per day and not involving travel outside their local area, as follows:

·         By themselves

·         With people they live with

·         With their support bubble (if legally permitted to form one)

·         In a childcare bubble where providing childcare

·         Or, when on their own, with one person from another household

Virtual training sessions can be delivered by qualified coaches.

Virtual competitions can still take place. Click here for a list of virtual road races.

England Athletics will continue to coordinate the Weekly 30.

Anyone taking part in any virtual activity should at all times observe the above restrictions.

Racing

For anyone interested, there are a few virtual races taking place at present:

A few Beestonites have entered the Virtual Road Relay competition – some cracking times achieved already for these 5-mile races – the deadline has been extended to 23:59 Wednesday 13 January for runs with run data to be submitted by midday Thursday 14 January.

Nice Work does some interesting races with decent medals for those who wish to add to their medal collection – see https://www.nice-work.org.uk/virtual/home .

Most Cross Country races are cancelled though confirmation is awaited about the English National Cross Country Championships which were scheduled to take place on 6 March 2021 at Parliament Hill, London (looking very unlikely though).
