Training

Run Leaders / Coaches

Beeston AC currently has 7 qualified Run Leaders who have completed the UKA/England Athletics Leadership in Running Fitness course (LiRF).

This qualifies them to supervise training for groups of runners from beginners, to mixed improvers and beyond. They all hold a valid UKA licence and are fully DBS checked.

Our leaders are Neil Byford, John O’Donnell, Penny Page, Dave Evans, Chris Bexton, Sophie Easdsforth and Gabriele Neher, all very nice people!

Neil Byford looks after the Wednesday and Friday training runs and is the club’s Covid Compliance Officer.

Weekly Training Runs

Tuesdays – Interval Training:

Some crazy people like to run fast, so just for them on a Tuesday we hold a speed / interval session. These are great if you really want to work at smashing those personal bests!

These sessions tend to start around 6pm and vary in location from Ilkeston Running track, Nottingham University Hills/University Boulevard and Bramcote Running Track.

The location and exact times for these are announced weekly on the club facebook page and club email so be sure to check out when the next one is.

Wednesdays:

These training runs take place at Chilwell Olympia on Wednesday and Friday evening, meeting at 6.25pm, heading out at 6.30pm. We have full use of the car park, changing rooms and showers.

On Wednesday evenings we offer 3 distances of around 5, 7 and 10 miles. Normally the groups divide into pace abilities of fast, intermediate and steady.

We always have a back marker runner for each distance so no-one need worry about being left behind. The routes are announced on facebook before hand along with a Strava preview which you can either just view or download onto a compatible device to follow if you wish.

We then rehydrate later in the Victoria Pub.

Fridays:

On Friday evenings we also meet at Olympia at 6.25pm but the route is only around 5 – 6 miles (10k ish) and this a more social / end of the week wind down run so not as intense (for some) as Wednesday night.

We then meet at around 9pm in the Crown Inn to drink beer and talk all things running! (and other stuff).

Sunday training runs:

These generally take place from the lay by at Stanton Gate, Moorbridge, Stapleford DE7 4QS every Sunday except the second Sunday in the month when the run is from Chilwell Olympia.

Please check the Facebook page and weekly e-mail as occasionally the session is cancelled due to races etc.

The runs start at 9am prompt. Distance is approximately 9 miles, 1 1/2 hours and where possible are on footpaths.

Runs from Moorbridge head west towards Ockbrook or Stanley, including the famous Gulley of Death, or east to Swingate.

As can be seen from the photos, the runs generally take place rain, snow or sunshine!!
