Weekly update from Beeston AC

Hi all – hoping this newsletter finds you and family well. Details below of the coming week’s runs.

Please see below information about a new Club run on Saturday mornings. This is a message from David Beighton:

BAC Return 2 Racing

As we appear to be edging closer to a return to racing, it would be good for us to get back into racing practice.

Over the past few months, some of you may have noticed, or even participated in the informal handicap 5k runs that have been taking place on Saturday mornings by a few members of Beeston AC. Now we are turning them into a temporary formal BAC training session with the purpose of preparing us to recommence racing. This will comply with EA Covid-19 training guidance and allow more than 6 people to participate.

The sessions are on Saturday mornings at 9:30 based at a different location each week, with each course covering 5k.

Each runner is given a handicap, based on their expected 5k completion time, and to give a staggered start.

The sessions are open to Beeston AC members only and are anticipated to run until parkrun returns, which under current advice is expected to be by the end of October.

Each week I will ask who is interested, allocate the spaces and create the handicaps for circulation on Friday.

The number of participants will be limited to 25, first come first served! No entries on the day. Please respond to the Facebook post, or ask for someone to do so on your behalf if you do not have access.

Sat 19th is an out and back meeting at the Boots tip bridge on the canal path.

Sat 26th will be two laps of the university, meeting at the Jesse Boot statue.

Sunday, 20 September: Please meet at 8.50 am for a 9.00 am start from Stanton Gate, Moorbridge Lane. John will have hand gel available at the start and end of runs for everyone’s use in view of the numerous stiles etc which will be on route.

Speed Session Tuesday, 22 September: meet 6.25 pm in Bramcote Leisure Centre Car Park, Derby Road, NG9 3GF in the south west corner by the path in the woods. Session to start 6.30 pm. Chris Robson is in charge this week. Please don’t bring any valuables, although hopefully someone will turn up in a car to pop things in a boot if necessary. Do lock bikes as they won’t be in sight all the time. The route will be a warm up lap to learn the course and then 20 minutes non-stop, working the hill and recovering down.

David Cross has very kindly agreed to coordinate a rota for the speed session and he will liaise with you all at these events to arrange sessions for the coming weeks. Thanks very much Dave!

Wednesday, 23 September, 6.25 for 6.30 pm depart, Chilwell Olympia

Penny and Chris have a group of Improvers doing a 5K loop setting off at the same time and we would welcome new runners along – no one will get left behind. We had another great turn out last night – so if you know someone who would like to start running please ask them to get in touch (poster attached).

Friday 25 September, 6.25 for 6.30 pm depart, Chilwell Olympia

Terms and conditions for attending Club Runs

Please note that we need to comply with guidance from England Athletics at present. In lieu of requiring members to complete a pre-activity health questionnaire before joining Club runs, our policy is that by attending sessions you are confirming that you have not got any Covid symptoms to the best of your knowledge. Sorry to keep repeating this but it is important for the next few weeks.

By choosing to attend for club training sessions, you are undertaking to comply with the following:

* Only attend club running/training sessions on the basis that you believe you have not experienced any Covid-19 symptoms and willing to comply with COVID-19 health and safety requirements concerning social distancing and hygiene before, during or after activity

* Attend to join a club run 5 minutes before the run is due to start ready to run (no changing facilities etc currently available) so that a photo may be taken of everyone taking part. We will convene at a safe distance from the Leisure Centre

* If you become unwell subsequently and are diagnosed with Covid-19, undertake to inform the Club as soon as your illness is confirmed so that anyone who ran with you may be informed for tracking and testing purposes.

Anyone not registered with the Club (and England Athletics) will be required to complete a form (Neil has copies of this and Chris has copies for the Improvers).
