4. Beeston AC Social Event: message from Jane Lewis

Why not come and join us on Saturday 1st September for a Family Cycle Ride and Picnic from Middleton Top to Parsley Hay …. and back!! Meet at Middleton Top Cycle Hire Shop at 10.30am then set off for a steady 12mile ride along the High Peak Trail to Parsley Hay where we can eat our picnics before returning either along the same trail or taking a longer route along the Tissington Trail and around Carsington Water approximately 20 miles!!

Bikes can be hired from Middleton Top if needed, so let's dust off those bike clips and dig out the padded shorts for a jolly jaunt in Derbyshire … weather dependent obviously!!!

For those with a need to fit in a run before, why not take in the Bakewell parkrun on your way!!!

Hope to see you there, Jane

5. Welcome: to new members Alix Blockley and Alec Maclean, happy running with Beeston AC!

7. Cover for Organisation of Wednesday and Friday training sessions

Due to unfortunate personal circumstances, our run leader Mike Blades is currently not able to take charge of the Wednesday and Friday training sessions. The Club is therefore looking for volunteers to look after runners doing the middle distance and short distance routes, with Penny Page in charge of a rota for the new/beginners group. The rota for middle/short routes will start from September; if you are willing to be on the rota please could you drop me an email and the Committee will be in touch shortly. It is planned that maps/descriptions of current routes will be available for putting on Facebook. Many thanks to all those who have already put their names forward!

8. Club rankings and P.B.s

The spreadsheet of members' P.B.s has now been transferred to the club website. http://beestonac.com/personalbest

It is about 6 months since it was last updated and we are aware that a lot of the times are now out of date etc. It would be great to have everyone recorded but inclusion is entirely optional. If you’d like your times updated or to be included for the first time please e-mail: admin@beestonac.com

Please include your name, distance and time including date and race. Please note that only proper certified measured races count ie not off road runs or Strava segments etc!

You can submit any future P.B.s as you achieve them – good luck!

9. Request for Nominations for Athlete of the Year

A document is attached outlining the procedure for nominations of the Athlete of the Year.  Please could nominations, including the names of proposer, seconder and a brief resume of the reasons for the nomination of the individual concerned, be sent to Chris Bexton (Club Secretary), by Midnight, Tuesday 25 September. The award would be presented at the forthcoming AGM, Tuesday, 6 November 2018 in the Victoria Hotel.

10. Well done

Congratulations to everyone who has participated in events over the past week, including the Erewash Triathlon and Half Marathon.

11. Alport Heights Relays, Thursday, 30 August: message from Jackie Welburn

As per previous years, I am organising Beeston AC teams for the Alport Heights Relay's on Thursday 30 August (formerly the Malt Shovel Relays). The event starts at 6:30 pm at Belper Amateurs Cricket Club, Sandyford Lane, Alderwasley, DE56 2RD and each relay team will have 3 runners, running a leg of 1.9 miles each. I believe the course is a flat loop starting and finishing within the cricket ground…

Cost is £4 per person – please let me know by Friday 24th August whether you would like to come so I can sort out the teams and entries. . . [email address jackiewelburn@googlemail.com or on the Facebook post].

For anyone who hasn't done the relays before, they are fun and friendly and we always have a good night 🙂
