Hello everyone – details of news and runs below.
Sad news: The Club has been informed that our longest serving member, Tony Rushton, has passed away this week. A lot of you will remember Tony as a stalwart at Beeston parkrun and between April 2014 and October 2019 he volunteered an amazing 173 times! Tony volunteered in a variety of roles, but mainly marshalled at the cobblestone bridge and a special sign was made for him as he stood at “Tony’s Bridge” week in, week out, regardless of the weather. Tony was a fine runner in his day and also acted as timekeeper many times for the Club’s handicap races. If you would like to remember Tony on Saturday at Beeston parkrun, please wear your club vest.
Details about the funeral to follow. We will raise a glass to Tony on Wednesday 1st February (Burns Night next week so the pub will be very full) in the Victoria Hotel, Dovecote Lane, NG9 1JG. Everyone is welcome.
Welcome to new members Ian Stevens and Martin Way: happy running with Beeston AC!
East Midlands XC: It’s back! No Sunday runs for the next 4 weeks so that everyone can participate in our favourite local cross country league. Holme Pierrepont this week, Bramcote the week after.

Shirley Starr has been in touch to advise about the road works on Derby Road and the impact this will have on getting to the race venues. This is her message:
“Just wanted to make people aware of the current roadworks on the A52 Nottingham. The A52 from Priory Island towards the Queens Medical Centre/ Ring Road is OPEN. The A52 in the opposite direction, Queens Medical Centre/Ring Road to Priory Island, is CLOSED and will potentially be so for the next 12 weeks. There are diversions in place which are:
On the Ring Road, just after the Showcase Cinema, take the slip road sign posted A6005 Beeston/Long Eaton, onto University Boulevard, at the end of the Boulevard, turn right at the traffic lights onto Woodside Road (beware of the 30mph speed camera). Follow this road to the end, then take a left back onto the A52 at Priory Island.
Please allow extra time if coming from this side of Nottingham as ALL traffic, including buses, will be using this diversion route.
Looking forward to seeing everyone at Holme Pierrepont next Sunday. There is a £5 charge for parking here and they have ANPR in operation.”
Tuesday, 24 January, 6.30 pm, speed session: Susan is running a parlauf session from Trent Vale Road. Meet by the new football clubhouse.
