Medals and running with Beeston AC

Hi all – details of news and runs below.

Well done: on some great results from the Newstead Abbey Dash and the Summer League Series! Lots of bling, including gold for the Senior Womens Team and bronze for the Master Mens team in the Summer League. Final results will appear at when available.

Marshals needed for the Double Gravs Handicap! This takes place next Wednesday 10th August. Please let Mark Rowlson know via his Facebook post if you would like to run or volunteer as a marshal. If you aren’t on Facebook and wish to run/marshal please get in touch with me via this email address and I will pass on your name. The first runners will set off at 6.00 pm so please arrive by 5.50 pm to be given a number. The deadline for runners to enter is this Sunday, 7 August so that Charlie Pearce has time to work out the handicaps. Full details about the handicap below.

Saturday, 6 August: See you at Beeston parkrun, 9.00 am at the Weirfields, Beeston Rylands NG9 1LZ Details of other local parkruns including Wollaton Hall are also available on the web link.

Sunday, 7 August: Please meet at 8.50 am for a 9.00 am start from the running track at Moor Lane, Bramcote NG9 3FH for an exciting meander to Trowell and Swingate with Gaby.

Tuesday, 9 August: The speed session: these are usually at the Moor Lane running track, NG9 3FH (though there may sometimes be hills elsewhere!). Further details of the session will be posted on Facebook. Sessions start at 6.30 pm; please arrive early to warm up if appropriate.

Wednesday, 10 August: NO CLUB RUN as it’s the Double Gravs handicap tonight. Please meet at Trent Vale Sports Ground, Trent Vale Road, NG9 1DE.

The events are free and only open to registered Beeston AC first and second claim members. The handicapper will estimate how long a runner will take to complete the course and runners will then be set off in reverse order, slowest first such that all runners should finish at the same time – at least that’s the theory. There is a perpetual trophy awarded to the winner to gloat over for the following year but don’t expect big money prizes. The events are all about having fun. Prizes etc will be presented after the event, usually in the Marina Bar. Double Gravs – two laps! Distance 5.5 miles, 8.8k, map at .
