Runs and Races with Beeston AC

1. Club runs 7 September to 12 September 2018 inclusive

Friday, 7 September – there will be a training run from Chilwell Olympia; meet in the foyer at 6.25 for a 6.30 pm depart. Distance 5-7 miles, drinks after in the Crown (usually from 9.00 pm onwards). There is also a fell race this evening (see below for details).

Saturday, 8 September – Beeston parkrun, 9.00 am at the Weirfields, Beeston Rylands NG9 1LZ http://www.parkrun.org.uk/beeston/ .

Sunday, 9 September – the weekly Sunday run is from Chilwell Olympia, meeting time is 8.50 am to start at 9.00 am, distance about 10 miles over footpaths and trails.

Tuesday, 11 September – speed session: Patrick Fitzgerald will be running a track session. Meet at 6.15 pm at Bramcote track for warm up then 6.30 pm start (NG9 3FH, next to Bramcote Leisure Centre, parking also available on Moor Lane).Full details will appear on Facebook.

Tuesday Rebel Runners, Chilwell, The Village Hotel:  This is usually a 5K run (sometimes with other options); details of the run are posted weekly on the Rebel Runners Facebook page. Meet 6.30 pm in the foyer for 6.40 pm depart.

Wednesday, 12 September – there will be a training run from Chilwell Olympia; meet in the foyer at 6.25 for a 6.30 pm depart. Distance 5-7-10 miles.

North Midlands Cross Country Dates for 2018/19 will be: Saturday, 13 October, Markeaton Park Derby; 10 November, Kettering; 1 December, Shipley Park Heanor; and 12 January, Wollaton Park Nottingham. Women’s races 1.50 pm (6K), men 2.20 pm (10K).

 

3. Sad News

 

Some of you will know Phil Turner, who ran with the Club for many years, a frequent member of the ‘theory section’ in the Vic Hotel on Wednesday nights and a keen supporter of the club, turning out to cheer us on at local races such as the Castle Rock 10K. The Club has recently received the sad news of Phil’s passing, and wishes to pass on condolences to Phil’s widow Dee, and family.

 

4. Beeston AC Social Event: Frosty Five

 

The inaugural Frosty 5 run will take place on Sunday, 4 November at 2.00 pm starting at The Star. The 5K route takes in 4 Beeston pubs before returning back to the start for a final drink and a chip cob! Two different levels – the Schooner (2.5 pints) £11 and the Stein (5 pints) £20, prices include beer and chip cob. Although this is the same date as the Dovedale Dash we hope the timing will allow runners to do both!

5. Date for diaries

 

For those interested in doing the Turkey Trot half marathon at Keyworth on Sunday, 9 December at 10.30 am, the online entries will open on RunBritain at 8.00 am on Monday, 17 September.

 

6. Coordinator for Wednesday and Friday Runs

 

Neil Byford has kindly agreed to cover for Mike Blades for the next six months and he will be in touch with those of you who have volunteered to look after the Wednesday and Friday runs. Do let Neil know if you would like to take charge of a run.

8. British Masters Athletics Federation Cross Country Relays, 27 October

 

Long Eaton Running Club is hosting this event which takes place at West Park, and is open to athletes aged 35 and over. If you are interested please get in touch – details are at https://www.race-results.co.uk/results/2018/bmafxcr18e.php . Legs are 3K in distance and entry is £6 per stage per team. It is the day before the Worksop Half.

 

9. Ron Hill Derby Midweek Races Wednesdays: 1 mile at 7pm & 5km at 7.20 pm

 

Please see information attached about these popular races, held at the Alvaston and Boulton Cricket Club House, Raynesway, Derby DE21 7BB, starting 12 September 2018. If you are interested and would like to know more, Jackie Welburn is happy to advise.

 

10. Request for Nominations for Athlete of the Year

 

A document is attached outlining the procedure for nominations of the Athlete of the Year.  Please could nominations, including the names of proposer, seconder and a brief resume of the reasons for the nomination of the individual concerned, be sent to Chris Bexton (Club Secretary), by Midnight, Tuesday 25 September. The award would be presented at the forthcoming AGM, Tuesday, 6 November 2018 in the Victoria Hotel.

 

11. Well done

Congratulations to everyone who has participated in events over the past week, including the Dave Denton Relays, Sherwood Pines 10K, the Exterminator and Wilne 10K. Some great results – don’t forget to send in your PBs! (Link below.)

 

12. Autumn Trip

A reminder that the Autumn Trip will be to Amsterdam. The races will take place on Sunday, 21 October and options include: full marathon (€75), half marathon (€29.50) and 8K (€16). Further details available at http://www.tcsamsterdammarathon.nl/en/registration/. The airline will be www.flybe.com . Rab’s suggestion for an hotel is The Ramada Apollo Amsterdam Centre (click on link for details of offers).
